Instead of trying to create a single, static firmware, OpenWrt provides

a fully writable filesystem with package management. This frees you

from the application selection and configuration provided by the vendor

and allows you to customize an embedded device through the use of

packages to suit any application. For developers, OpenWrt is the

framework to build an application without having to build a complete

firmware around it. For users, this means and gives the ability for

full customization, to use an embedded device in ways never envisioned.

Free and open-source. The project is entirely free and open-source, licensed under the GPL. The project intend to always be hosted at an easily accessible site, full source code readily available and easily built.

Easy and free access.

The project will always be open to new contributors and have a low

barrier for participation. Anyone shall be able to contribute. We, the

curerent developers, actively grant write access to anyone interested

in having it. We believe people are responsible when given

responsibility. Just ask and you will be able to acquire the access

rights you need.

This is not about 'us' offering 'you' something, it is about everyone

coming together to work and collaborate towards a common goal.

It has for a long time been established that OpenWrt is the best

firmware solution in its class. It far exceeds other embedded solutions

the clear-cut goal of the OpenWrt developers to continue and expand

development, and ensure that OpenWrt is frontrunner as framework for
